The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Riu Palace Bavaro Punta Cana All Inclusive

Embarking on an all-inclusive vacation is always an adventure, and staying at the Riu Palace Bavaro in Punta Cana is no exception. This resort offers a mix of experiences that can cater to a variety of tastes and preferences. Here's my candid look at what to expect from a stay at this tropical getaway.

The Good:

The Resort Buffet at this place is one of the best I've ever had, with Krystals and the Steak House being my favorite a la carte options. If you're looking to unwind, make sure to try the hot stone massage at the Spa. The staff's warm and accommodating attitude enhances the overall experience. The resort's architecture, designed like villas with only four floors connected by breezeways, guarantees that each room comes with a balcony or patio, providing stunning views of the beaches, pools, and well-kept grounds. The adults-only swim-up pool bar, with its exceptional bartenders, is a popular spot for many guests.

The Bad:

Nevertheless, paradise is not without its imperfections. There were reported incidents of children at the adult-only swim-up pool bar, as well as a frustrating experience involving a lost ID bracelet and a prolonged encounter with security. The pool party at the sister resort appears to attract a younger demographic, which may not be to everyone's liking. While the public beach is stunning, it can be bothersome due to the constant presence of local vendors; however, this could also be advantageous for those seeking affordable excursion deals.

The Ugly:

The rooms, unfortunately, seem to lack the same level of care as the rest of the resort.  I found my room to have rusty fixtures and broken picture frames. Outdoor furniture also appears to be in need of replacement. Additionally, the lack of a cutoff point for adult beverages means that overindulgence is a common sight, which can detract from the overall experience.

Riu Palace Bavaro offers a vibrant mix of luxury and local charm, with plenty of amenities to enjoy and some areas that could use improvement. It's a place where the good often outweighs the bad, and even the ugly can't entirely diminish the shine of this Caribbean jewel. Whether it's the right resort for you depends on what you're looking for in your vacation experience.
